Elementals

Elementals are Doyenne comprised of raw elemental energy such as fire, water, wind, and earth. The first elementals were gifted life as a by-product of Meraki simply touching down in the mortal plane. Meraki’s unbridled divine energy seeped into her surroundings and new life was formed.

‍Types of Elementals

Below is a list of elementals that have been documented by scholars:

Incarnates ‍ ‍

The catch all term for the most basic of elementals. These creatures are the element come to life and range from sizes of puddles and pebbles to mountains. They embody the raw natural forces and appear as humanoid, yet amorphous entities that are defined by their elemental nature. Incarnates come in the following sizes:

Essence

The catch all term for the most basic of elementals in the “minor” stage of life. These creatures often taken the shape of amorphous blobs. They can reach up to 2ft in height.

Shard

The catch all term for the most basic of elementals in the “lesser” stage of life. These creatures have begun to take on a humanoid shape but are unable to speak. They can reach up to 5ft in height.

Monolith

The catch all term for the most basic of elementals in the “greater” stage of life. These creatures are humanoid in shape and can speak in a language understood by humans. They can reach up to 8ft in height.

Tekton

Elementals who have achieved their ultimate form—colossal walking-calamities. Very few elemental-incarnates exist and those that do spend most of their time dormant. They rival mountains and glaciers in size and have often been mistaken for them. As shards of their bodies break off, new elementals are produced. Their name comes from how their very existence can reshape the geographical landscape.

Nymphs / UndinaA

A water nymph is a water-elemental that resides in a localized body of water. These beings typically take the form of young, beautiful people and act as the guardians of their specific aquatic environments. Often described to have radiant skin, long hair, and enchanting beauty, each nymph is tied to a specific body of water—be it a spring, river, lake, or the ocean. They preside over these waters, with some academia suggesting that they help maintain cleanliness and the flow of the water.

Sylphs / Sylvestris

A sylph is an air-elemental that are often invisible to the human eye. They are often larger and rougher than humans. They are beings that weave and work in the air, influencing winds and clouds.

Pygmy / Gnomus

A pygmy is a small, humanoid, earth-elemental who live underground and can move through solid earth, rock, and walls as easily as humans move through air—the earth is their native element. They are known to guard subterranean treasures like gold and precious metals.

Salamander / Vulcanus

Salamanders are fire-elementals that are believed to be the consciousness of fire itself. They are responsible for the existence and activity of fire and live within the flames. They are fiery, lizard-like creatures, often misconstrued as miniature dragons, sometimes with white flames along their side. They can also take the form of small, flickering flames or balls of light. They are often described as temperamental, impulsive, hot-headed, and willful. They are easily provoked to anger or aggression.

Pheonix

A phoenix is a powerful fire-elemental that cyclically regenerates or is "born again" from its own ashes after it dies, often in a burst of flames. It is a symbol of renewal, resilience, resurrection, and immortality. They are large creatures with brilliant red and gold plumage and are associated with the sun. A phoenix lives for an exceptionally long time (sometimes cited as 500 years) before building a nest of aromatic spices and setting it on fire. It is then consumed by the flames and is reborn from the ashes as a young bird.

Slimes / Oozes

An amorphous, seemingly non-sentient, gelatinous creature that engulfs its prey and slowly digests them. Slimes and oozes come in all varieties but all of them have no discernible organs and move with a slow, grinding inevitability, propelled by a mindless instinct to cleanse and consume. The more common ones are acidic water elementals; however, earth elemental slimes and oozes comprised of liquid metals have been documented as well.

Gargoyle

Gargoyles are statues that were fashioned to function as a waterspout to protect the building it was affixed to by carrying rainwater away from the walls and foundation of the structure. However, over time, some gargoyles “came to life” as they were fashioned from living earth-elementals that happened to be asleep. These Gargoyles maintained their new form and took their charge a step further, striking down any who threatened their home. Gargoyles are often chiseled into grotesque monstrous creatures reminiscent of demons or chimaeras as they were designed to look frightening. Some academics have taken to consulting with gargoyles to acquire first-hand accounts of historical events.

Dragons

Dragons are powerful elementals characterized by their large, serpentine, or lizard-like appearance. There are a wide variety of dragons that exist, some winged, some not, but all of them can utilize a destructive breath-attack related to their respective elements. They are some of the most dangerous creatures on all the planes. ‍
