The Shroud

The third, and contemporary, age, dubbed the Shroud by scholars, has been an age of healing and rest for both the plane itself and the races that inhabit it.

Having lost much due to the Schism, the various races of the world turned inwards, focusing on stabilization and rebuilding their societies. Humanity moved away from its guardianship role, having lost the trust of many of the other races. Even the gods have retreated to the Astral Plane to focus solely on their cosmic roles rather than dabble directly in the lives of mortals.

‍Despite this age being a period of great isolation, within recent years, the various races have begun to open their borders to one another. Trade and communication lines have been renewed and treaties revisited.

Furthermore, if “isolation” is the defining trait of the begging of the age, “advancement” has been the cornerstone for the rest. Advancement in political relationships, advancement in technology, advancement in the study of magic—the world catapulted itself into the future. Science has begun taking over and now rivals Magic in its capabilities. The prevailing zeitgeist now categorizes engineering as a utilitarian asset for the masses, touting it as convenient and accessible—a stark contrast to magic, which is perceived as a gatekept discipline accessible only to those with the time and status to master it.
