Apophis

Apophis is an Aspect whose origins remain shrouded in mystery. It has the body of a serpent-like, titanic sea creature and lives in the deepest recesses of the ocean. It is the only god known to be sympathetic to the Dread Titan and there are even rumors that Apophis originally came from another world.

Apophis has very few followers and most of the cult are seen as doomsday conspiracy theorists who preach rebirth through destruction.

When Saoirse first came into power as a divinity, she was prone to taking on increasingly difficult challenges to test the limits of her strength. On one of those excursions, Saoirse found herself chasing her prey into the ocean depths. As she swam deeper, the light from above began to vanish. Finding herself in near utter darkness, the Forest Daughter decided to turn back; but, before she could swim away, a glint in the abyss caught her eye. Curiosity overtook her better judgement, and she began to investigate. She swam towards the sparkle which soon turned into a dim glow and then a bright beacon. Now close enough to touch the light, Saoirse reached out but was overtaken by an urge to escape. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to flee. The huntress had become prey and just narrowly avoided the gaping maw that rushed towards her. Apophis chased her with all its might, creating whirlpools and vortexes in its wake. Their battle raged on as the two lunged and clawed at one another locked in their danse macabre. Ultimately, Saoirse was able to land a lethal blow on the leviathan by impaling Apophis with a spear. As Apophis bellowed its blood-curdling scream, Saoirse had enough time to escape and make it safely back to her forest.

Outside of this brief encounter, there are barely any stories about Apophis. From time to time, sailors who were lucky enough to survive a shipwreck will wash ashore, their minds broken, claiming to have encountered a terrifying beast that swallowed their vessel whole but such tales, historically, have been brushed aside.

Unlike the others deities, it is believed that Apophis refused to retreat to the Astral Plane and still resides in the deepest recesses of the oceans; however, Apophis has not been sighted for centuries.

Epithets

Apophis’ titles include such names as Leviathan, The Unseen, and Gaping-Maw. It has but one symbol associated with it: the Ouroboros.
